The collisions the CHP is handling now, where traffic is slow, and for each crash the nearest Caltrans camera, what the freeway signs say and how many crashes that spot has had. Tap a car on the map, or a crash in the list, to see it.
In an emergency, call 911. Don't use this while driving. These are first reports from CHP dispatch: details can be wrong, and only crashes the CHP handles (freeways, state highways and roads outside city limits) are listed.

Questions
- Where can I see accidents near me right now?
- Tap "Show crashes near me" on the map. It sorts the CHP's live list of collisions by distance from you and zooms the map there. Your location stays in your browser.
- How current is this traffic map?
- The CHP list and the Caltrans signs are read every 2 minutes, each camera picture updates about every 2 minutes, and the slow-traffic colours about every 8 minutes.
- Why isn't a crash on my street on the map?
- Only the CHP publishes a live list, and it covers freeways, state highways and roads outside city limits. City police crashes reach the state's records weeks later; those are on our city crash pages.
- Can I see the freeway cameras?
- Yes: tap a camera on the map, or open a freeway's page for all of its cameras in order along the road. 79 freeways and highways have one.
- How do I get the police report for a crash?
- The CHP takes reports on freeways and in unincorporated areas; city police take them in their city. Our police report page says who to ask and links to the CHP's request page.
Where this comes from
Collisions are the CHP's live dispatch list (cad.chp.ca.gov): freeways, state highways and roads outside city limits. City police don't publish a live list, so crashes on city streets aren't here. These are first reports from dispatch, and details can change.
Cameras and message signs are Caltrans' own feeds (QuickMap shows the same): each camera's picture updates about every 2 minutes and loads straight from Caltrans. The sign beside a crash is the nearest one showing a message, which may be about something else.
Slow traffic is Mapbox's live congestion layer, updated about every 8 minutes. Crash history is the reported crashes at that corner in the state's crash records (CCRS); see the methodology.
